My Sweet Girl,
As the days of my pregnancy wind down and you get closer to leaving this belly I've carried you in, I've had a lot of thoughts weighing heavy on my mind. I think about what it means to raise a daughter and how to bring a girl into this world and help her to become a strong woman.
From the moment I knew you were mine, my world suddenly changed. I fell instantly in love with your tiny mind and soul. I dream of the incredible little person you’ll be and the beautiful woman you’ll become. I knew in that moment, as the doctor played your heartbeat out loud for me to hear- that my actions and words would soon become much more pertinent than ever before. Now in these last weeks before you’re here, I reflect on my childhood, my experiences in life, the person I've become- and the things I've had to endure to do so. And there’s a few things I want you to always know...
You can be anything. This world you're about to enter is full of unknown. You'll walk so many paths in this life, many times not knowing if the one you're on is right, or for you. I still wonder every day if the choices I make are the right ones, or if I've filled my whole potential in life. You can wonder many things in this life, but do not ever question your capabilities. You can be anyone you like; do anything you set your mind to. And never let anyone tell you different.
As hard as it may seem, let people's words roll off you. You will be raised to be kind. You'll learn the weight of words and your inability to take them back. But others may not abide by the same. There will always be someone green with envy, or overcome by negativity. You'll never be able to control the words of others, only how you are affected by them.
Being a victim will never leave you on top. Life can be hard, no doubt. And I wish I could sweep away all the troubles you may face in life, and pave a perfect path to your happiness and success. I wish I could promise you a life of no worry or hurt. But, I can't. This life will sometimes throw nasty tricks at you. It will test your resilience in ways you'll never understand. You will face hardships and pain at one point or another. Let it make you stronger. Don't let what's happened to you, define you. Be a victim only of your own passions and your willingness to thrive.
Self-love will get you through anything. You are stronger than you know. There will be days when you don't feel it. But I will always make you believe it. From the moment I knew you were in my belly, I knew you were so special. Be kind to yourself always. When the day comes that you stand in front of the mirror as a woman, don't pick yourself apart. Give yourself the same love you'd give to others and you will see the difference it makes. Give yourself all the credit and never forget that you are the very best thing.
You do not have to conform to anything. This world is yours for the taking. This life belongs to you, and you alone. What you do with it, is what you choose. Be who you want to be, not what the world tells you that you must be. Never conform your beliefs to those of others. Be an individual and never apologize for it.
I will always be in your corner. No matter what happens to you, know that you are never alone. Whatever troubles you may face in this life, I'll be there. I will be your number one fan, and your biggest fighter. Know that you can come to me with anything, even at the most impossible times. I promise to always listen whole-heartedly, reserve my judgements, and guide you in the best way I can.
You're nearly here, my little bee. We spend so much time planning your arrival, and talking about our new future with you. The world will be a better place with you in it and I can't wait to experience a life with you.
Never forget who you are, what you're capable of, or the person we'll raise you to be. And when things get hard or you're unsure of things in this life, I hope you'll always remember these words.
I love you more than anything.
